Apprentice Information
Often starting out on an apprenticeship at a young age is a daunting experience and can be made all the more difficult by being deluged with information at the start of your apprenticeship. You may find yourself with a training provider, with a college or with a managing agent such as the JTL. Whoever you find yourself with, you will need to cover the following qualifications to complete your apprenticeship with the allotted 42 months or there may be funding implications.
Apprentice Framework
- City and Guilds 2357
- Employers Rights and Responsibilities (1)
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) (2)
- Functional Skills Maths Level 2 (3)
- Functional Skills English Level 2 (3)
- Functional Skills ICT Level 2 (3)
- AM2
1. Although not formally studied, evidence is needed to claim your apprenticeship.
2. Although not formally studied, evidence is needed to claim your apprenticeship.
3. Provided you have a GCSE completed at grade C an A/AS Level at grades D/E you can be exempted from these parts of the framework. Please speak to your training provider for more in depth information.
Once you have completed the above, you will have completed your apprenticeship and can apply to the JIB for the appropriate grading.
Functional Skills
All apprentice training programs require functional skills. The new program replaces the outgoing Key Skills and the electrical apprenticeship, unlike other trades, requires all 3 to ensure a full framework completion. The difference is that the new electrotechnical framework now insists on an ICT qualification at Level 2 rather than Level 1 on the previous framework.
AM2
The AM2 is an external examination conducted by the National Electrotechnical Training company that is owned by the large industry bodies, the ECA, SELECT and the union, Unite. Completion of this unique exam is required at the end of the apprenticeship to complete the 2357 as it forms the very last unit.
